Automating High-Precision Assembly for industrial grade products

Background
Our client, a Norwegian company operating in the oil and gas sector, needed a robust and reliable solution for assembling a new line of protective equipment. As this was a brand-new product, there were no existing production processes in place, and the company faced a critical choice: build a custom assembly system from scratch or rely on manual labor—despite known limitations in quality, cost, and repeatability.

The challenge:

  • Guarantee assembly quality beyond human capability

  • Maintain cost-efficiency in Norway’s high-labor-cost environment

  • Enable easy reconfiguration for annual product redesigns and three different product variants

Why they chose our solution:
Faced with long lead times (up to 18 months) and high costs for custom machines, our client sought an alternative that could deliver:

Implementation journey:
The deployment was completed in just four weeks. The process included:

Minimal integration was required — the only link to existing systems was snapshot storage for post-production inspection review. Material supply and off-take logistics were handled by the team on site, enabling rapid, plug-and-play deployment.

The system performs adhesive application, assembly, and visual inspection, before handing over the product to a human operator to complete the final steps. This hybrid approach maximizes efficiency while preserving human oversight where necessary.
